5745–1984, in honor of the twentieth yahrzeit of his mother, Rebbetzin Chana, the Rebbe spoke about the three mitzvot specifically given to women and girls: family purity, kosher, and Shabbat candles. He called on chasidim to establish twenty new mikvaot in locations that did not yet have one, twenty new funds to help Jewish people transition to kosher eating, by providing financial assistance for new kitchenware and kosher food, and twenty new funds to promote Shabbat candle-lighting, by publicizing the importance of this mitzvah and awarding prizes to those who take it on. The next day, the Rebbe reported that people had already responded “immediately and enthusiastically” to his request, and he contributed to each of the new funds that were established. 6 Tishrei
