He Banged on The Table so as Not to Hear The Brachos and Haftorah:

Sefer Otzros Yisroel (page 172) relates that a chosson once came to the Shinover Rov zy”a and told him that his aufruf would be that Shabbos. He asked the Rov if he could travel to the city where the aufruf was taking place and attend the simcha.

When the chasidim heard this, they began to shout at the chosson and to ask how he dared to ask the Rov to exert himself to such an extent. However, the Rov said that he was willing to make the trip, and he did, in fact, attend the aufruf.

When the chosson was called up for the aliyah of Maftir, the Rov began to loudly bang on the table. He was making so much noise that no one could hear the brachos or the Haftorah. The people thought that the Rov was banging due to his extreme hislahavus; however, he later said, “When the chosson came to me, I noticed that he has a stutter. I realized that he wouldn’t be able to say the brachos correctly and that this could cause the mechutin to break off the shidduch. Therefore, I decided to travel to the aufruf so that I could bang on the table and drown out the sound of the brachos.”
