Pathways to the Heart

You may have wanted to come to the morning prayer, but you didn’t feel well. Hashem will testify on your behalf that you truly didn’t feel well—for only He can attest whether it was laziness or some other cause.

Hashem saw that your intention to come was pure and clean and He counts it as if you actually went to the synagogue, because He knows you felt very unwell, and that had you gotten up you might have fallen in the street; therefore you remained in bed due to circumstances beyond your control.

But here one must be honest with the Holy One, blessed be He: not to claim over every small inconvenience, “I can’t come, I’m unwell...”
