The Lesson of Didon Netzach

Chassidic Story | December 31, 2025

And it’s not necessary to be a very wise person to find the lesson in the Midrash of Didon Netzach. Each Jew has two souls—a G-dly soul and an animal soul. The G-dly soul is bound to the animal soul and the animal soul is bound to the Evil Impulse [Yetzer Hora]. While, the good impulse [the G-dly soul] tells us we need to carry out the directions of our Rebbe. The bad spirit [the Yetzer Hara] immediately tries to confuse us. It is an expert and clever craftsman, devising many explanations to show the Rebbe’s clear instruction was not his “real intention.” It tells us that now is not yet the time and not the place. Or that such and such a person says it is only for us but not for the world.

All falsehood comes from the bad spirit. He is a faithful servant to cool our enthusiasm by planting doubts in our mind. Amalek who cools our enthusiasm has the same numerology as the Hebrew word for doubt [soffek].

However, the Midrash instructs how to be victorious and nullify the bad spirit. Gathering all Jews to aid and help each other, and together with Hashem’s help, we will find as the Midrash states from Psalms “He will send His help from His Holy Place.”

In short, all of us together must raise a tumultuous roar with all the implements at our disposal, boldly declaring “Didon Netzach” [victory is ours] like the Rebbe wants. Then we will be victorious and nullify the spirit of evil completely. Once it is nullified, its blood will appear in the face of the water. Then we will know victory is truly ours. — “Didon Netzach!”
