The name Ben Drusai is well known in Hilchos Shabbos for the concept called מאכל בן דרוסאי—food that has reached a minimal level of cooking at which it is already edible. Who was this person? He was a bandit who was constantly fleeing from the authorities. Because he was always on the run, he didn’t wait for food to cook fully. He would eat meat when it was only partially cooked.
That stage of cooking became the halachic benchmark called מאכל בן דרוסאי.
The Rema Mipano reveals a remarkable fact. Chofni, the son of Eili, was reincarnated as Ben Drusai. A striking parallel between them can be seen in their conduct. Chofni would take raw meat from the pan, similar to Ben Drusai who would eat before it had fully cooked. This similarity reflects a shared trait, manifesting across their respective lives.
