Taanis Esther

Divrei Hisoirerus | June 27, 2025

Ta’anis Esther is different to all other ta’anesim. We do not commemorate a sad event which happened, rather, we emulate the Klal Yisrael at that time who went out to battle their enemies and who surely fasted as a zechus for victory.

Klal Yisrael is currently at war, not only in Eretz Yisrael but all over the world. On Simchas Torah, the many means that we use to “protect ourselves” fell on their face. No longer could we trust in weapons or intelligence, in fact, the more we find out about what occurred in the lead-up to that terrible day and the gross negligence of the security services, the more we feel that we can only depend upon Hashem.
