5739-1979, at the Purim farbrengen, the Rebbe invited the group of young Iranian refugees who had recently fled the Islamic revolution to toast l’chaim and sing a Jewish song from their home country.

5741-1981, on Purim, hours before the onset of Shabbat, the Rebbe unexpectedly entered the small synagogue near his office, which was mostly empty. After a chair was brought for him, the Rebbe began to deliver a chasidic discourse. When he finished, he toasted l’chaim and encouraged everyone who was present to do so as well “without limits.” After he left the room, the chasidim danced until the beginning of Shabbat.
