When bringing his family to greet Eisav, Yaakov originally set them up that each of the mothers came first, her children following from behind; but: לְ מַ עֲ שֶּ ה in the end, Yosef went ahead of his mother. Rashi explains that Yosef was blocking his mother from Eisav’s view, to prevent him from gazing at her. We can suggest another reason why he went ahead of his mother. The Slonimer Rebbe Zatzal points out that when Eisav asked: לג ה מִּ י אֵ לֶּ ה לָ ךְ “Who are all these people?” he was also inquiring about the women, yet Yaakov replied: הַ יְלָ דִּ ים אֲ שֶּ ר חָ נַן אֱ לֹקִּ ים אֶּ ת עַ בְ דֶּ ךָ לג ה “These are the children that Hashem gave me”. He didn’t mention the women, to give Eisav some Mussar...
“By us, the main thing is the: יְלָ דִּ ים children”. Not like Eisav’s Goyishe mentality “Ladies first”, because a Goy is more involved in his Ta'avos, and he doesn’t have a proper seriousness about his future Doros. Yosef had just heard his father giving Mussar about: יְלָ דִּ ים children first; that is why he stepped ahead of his mother. This fits in beautifully to the simple Pshat.
