However, according to this, it is a Chiddush that Yosef was the only one to change his father’s original order. Perhaps, Yaakov held that despite the: יְלָ דִּ ים children being the Ikar, the mothers must still come first, because of Kibud Eim. No matter what the Pshat is, Yosef was an original thinker, who was ready to go against his father’s plan.
ִּשְ רָ אֵ ל אָ הַ ב אֶּ ת יוֹסֵ ף מִּ כָל בָ נָיו כִּ י בֶּ ן זְ קֻּ נִּ ים הוּא לוֹוְי לז ג Yisroel loved Yosef more than all the rest of his sons, because he was a “Ben-Zekunim”, meaning: בַ ר חֲ ים כִּ that he was especially wise. (Targum). A true father has Nachas from a child with his own mind, even though he may be going against his father. Indeed, Yaakov himself was mainly involved in Torah, unlike his father and Zeide who were focused on Chesed and Tefila.
Yosef’s going “ahead” of his mother is similar to his future behaviors (in the beginning of Parshas Vayeishev). First, he relates a dream to his brothers in which they are all bowing down to him. And when they are upset with him, he comes back to tell them a new dream, where not only are his brothers bowing down to him, but also his own father and mother! Romemus! We also see his unending Romemus when he tells the wife of Potiphar: אֵ ינֶּנוּ גָדוֹל בַ בַ יִּת הַ זֶּ ה מִּ מֶּ נִּ י וישב לט ט I am the greatest person around here!
And in Parshas Miketz we see his tremendous tough Romemus and: קִּ תְ יפוּת strength when dealing with all his brothers. And when he heard them say: עַ בְ דְ ךָ אָ בִּ ינוּ Our father (Yaakov), your slave, he didn’t protest (Chazal say that for this, he was punished by losing 10 years of life!). Yosef was a true independent thinker with his own mind, who doesn’t care about public opinion. This is a true Baal Bitachon only in Hashem and not people (including his own parents!)
