An Answer to Those Who Ask What Is the Point to Talk So Much About Moshiach

Lebin mit Moshiach | June 27, 2025

The question is sometimes heard: What is the point in talking relentlessly about Moshiach?! It would seem - they ask – that this constant “storming” and talking about the imminent arrival of Moshiach, is a “wild thing”?!

After all, this has already been said many times, and nothing (it seems) has changed. So, what’s the point in constantly speaking with so much excitement and enthusiasm about the Geula, one Shabbos after another Shabbos?!

Even to speak about Moshiach – why is it necessary to clamor and shout? – It is possible, just the same, to speak calmly and quietly, and at the most to conclude with hand-clapping... [those “machmirim” can do it “back-handed” on Shabbos – if that helps].

The answer is, that on the contrary: Because after all the talking and all the activities to hasten Moshiach, and Moshiach hasn’t come yet, there is no other alternative but to do things in a “wild way!” - of course consistent with Shulchan Aruch, but with non-conventional methods.

This is also the explanation why the constant “clamor” that a Jew must endeavor to add one more act of Torah and mitzvos; One more act of spreading the fountains of Chasidus outward - because this can bring Moshiach even one moment earlier!

Seemingly - one may ask - the Jewish people have been awaiting Moshiach for thousands of years, and throughout all generations an abundant amount of Torah and mitzvos has been performed?

The purpose of a Jew’s life on this world is to make a dwelling place for Hashem and He is not limited in the size and measure of the deed which will achieve this, whether a major or minor effort, whether by a great or small person - so it’s quite possible that just one particular act, by just this one child, will tip the scales and bring the Geula!

This is similar to the well known teaching of the Baal-Shem-Tov (HaYom Yom 5 Iyar), regarding the ultimate shlichus (mission) of the soul’s descent into a physical body in this world:

A neshama may descend to this physical world, and live 70-80 years, just to do one favor for a Jew. This means, that although this Jew is a tzaddik, who learned alot of Torah and performed all the mitzvos, the demanding ones as well as the easier ones – it is possible that the ultimate mission of this soul’s descent down here in a body is to do one favor for a Jew!

Considering that one more act can bring Moshiach, this adds more energy, vitality and encouragement to the avoda of each Jew in his everyday activities, to make a dwelling place for Hashem by spreading yiddishkeit and the fountains of Chasidus also to other Jews, and spreading the Seven Noachide Laws also to non-Jews – until the entire world will be transformed into a dwelling place for Hashem. (Shabbos P. Vayishlach, 14 Kislev, 5748)
