Furthermore, one should praise Hashem today for kindness He will perform in the future. It is related that on one leil Shabbos, Rav Boruch of Mezhibozh zy”a was reciting the tefillah of “Ribon Ha’olamim”. When he reached the words “for all of the chesed that He did with me and that He will do with me in the future”, he stopped and was silent for a moment. He then asked himself, “Why am I thanking Hashem for chesed that He hasn’t done yet? Why don’t I wait to thank Him after He does it?”
He then answered, “Perhaps He will do a chesed for me at a time when I am unable to thank Him. Therefore, I will thank Him now.”
After saying this, he began to cry.
The Savriner Rebbe zy”a was present at the time and he asked, “Your answer was so good. Why are you crying?”
Rav Boruch answered, “I am crying at the thought of ever being in a situation where I am unable to properly thank Hashem!”
