Insight
The purpose of creation is to make the world into a home for G-d Himself in the lower realms. A home is a place where one reveals one’s true self, one’s essence, completely. We have to make the world into a place where G-d’s very Essence is revealed. At the same time, G-d specifically wants His home to be in the lower realms. To make your home somewhere, you have to settle in the place and utilize the ways of the place. G-d wants to dwell specifically in this physical world. A Jew can’t remain a soul above; rather the Jew must be a soul in a physical body in the world, and act in one’s physical life in the world according to the instructions of the Torah.
Even more: we make the world not only into a home – which is still separate from the Dweller Himself – but rather that everything in the world is an expression of His Essence. Indeed, only G-d has the power to create physical substance from absolute nothingness.
