Adultery is directly related to the body’s cravings and to physical actions surrounding the body and the body (focusing on the torso) is the direct manifestation of the sefirah of beauty in the human form. As the Tikkunei Zohar states, “Beauty is the body” (tiferet gufa). Beauty is also tied with one’s wife, following the verse, “He gives it the form of a person, like the beauty of man that dwells in his home.” Recall that Rabbi Yosei is quoted saying, “In all my days, I did not call my wife, ‘my wife,’ rather I called my wife, ‘my home’” because she is the essence of the home.
Prohibiting a relationship with another man’s wife is thus a protection for the sefirah of beauty, for the body.
