How Rav Nosson Wachtfogel Earned the Job

Rav Nosson Wachtfogel was famously the long-time mashgiach in Lakewood. He once told his talmidim, “You should know that there were far more qualified candidates for the job than I. I was a relatively simple yungerman. The real reason I got the job was due to shemiras einayim.”

He went on to explain that following the war, he had many occasions to speak with women and girls to strengthen them in Torah observance, but he never looked their way! He would always sit sideways, as he illustrated to his talmidim. Rav Nosson was one hundred percent certain that this was the reason he was given the job as mashgiach. For when a Yid guards his eyes, the shefa remains with him, and he becomes blessed in all areas of his life.
