Right represents loving-kindness and left represents might. Just as the commandment to honor our parents concludes the right tablet, stressing its connection with loving-kindness on the right, so the commandment to not shed blood opens the left tablet, connecting it with might. Prohibiting murder is meant to nullify Esau’s tendency for bloodshed. Esau’s excitement stems from blood, as Isaac blessed him, “You shall live by your sword.” The power of the sefirah of might is to block this tendency, as the sages say, “Who is brave? He who conquers his [evil] inclination.”
