Rav Shlomo Wolbe (1914-2005), Berlin, Switzerland, Poland, Sweden, Israel; Raised in a secular home and educated at the University of Berlin before joining a yeshiva. Eventually joined the Mir yeshiva in Poland, where he became a student of Rav Yeruchom Levovitz. Spent WWII in Sweden, and in 1946 left for Yeshivas Lomzha in Petah Tikva. For more than 30 years, served as the menahel ruchani of Yeshivas Be’er Yaakov, then mashgiach in Lakewood Yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel. Alei Shur is a musar classic discussing dimensional growth as it pertains to students of the Talmud.
