The continuation of the Maamor from the year 5644 (which is handwritten by the Rebbe Rashab’s Holy Hand) is incomplete, but we can appreciate what the continuation of the Maamor would have said by comparing this Maamor with other Maamorim that the Rebbe Rashab himself delivered as well as with earlier Maamorim from previous Rebbeim upon which the Rebbe Rashab based this Maamor. These being the Maamorim of the Tzemach Tzedek and of the Mitteler Rebbe and also the Maamorim of the Alter Rebbe.
Background on the Rebbeim
Tzemach Tzedek: Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Tzemach Tzedek of Lubavitch 1789 - 1866. Third Rebbe of Lubavich and the son-in-law and successor of the Mitteler Rebbe. Grandson of the Alter Rebbe. Named after his work entitled: ‘Tzemach Tzedek’ which is an authoritative responsa on many areas of Jewish law. He compiled major works of Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi for publication, including the Siddur Im Dach, Likutei Torah and Torah Ohr. He also authored a philosophical text entitled "Sefer Chakira: Derech Emuna". As well as Derech Mitzvosecho, a mystical exposition of the Mitzvos, as well as Biurei Hazohar, Ohr Hatorah, Sefer Halikutim & Sefer Hamaamorim. Among his famous quotes: “Tracht Goot Vet Zein Goot — Think good and it will be good.”
Mitteler Rebbe: Also referred to as Rabbi Dov Ber Schneuri 1773-1827, Second Chabad Rebbe, son and successor to Rabbi Schneur Zalman, the founder of Chabad in 1812. He had two sons, Menachem Nochum and Boruch, and seven daughters. The oldest of his daughters, Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, was married to her cousin Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, another grandchild of Schneur Zalman of Liadi. Menachem Mendel succeeded his father-in-law/uncle as Rebbe. The Mitteler Rebbe wrote many works on Chabad philosophy and Kabbalah. He greatly expanded on the elucidation of Chabad philosophy, so that his followers could understand and internalise its spirituality. The titles of his works included the following: Maamarei Admur Ha'emtza'i – Chassidic discourses on the Torah and festivals - 20 volumes. Bi'urei HaZohar - explanation of the Zohar. Pirush HaMilos - Chassidic explanation of the liturgy. Kuntres HaHispaalus - on meditation and ecstasy in prayer; also known as Kuntres HaHisbonenus. Shaarei Teshuvah - on Teshuvah, repentance. Derech Chaim - continuation of Shaarei Teshuvah. Toras Chaim - Chassidic discourses on the books of Bereshis and Shemos. Ateres Rosh - Chassidic discourses for the Days of Awe. Shaar HaEmunah - explanation of the Mitzvah of faith and the festival of Pesach. Shaar HaYichud - explanation of Seder Hishtalshelus. Shaarei Orah - on the festivals of Chanukah and Purim. Imrei Binah - explanation of the Mitzvah of reading the Shema and donning the Tefillin.
Alter Rebbe: Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, founder and first Rebbe of Chabad, 1745-1813. was a direct descendant of the MaHaRaL of Prague. He was a prominent (and the youngest) disciple of Rabbi Dovber the Maggid of Mezeritch, who was in turn the successor of the Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Chassidic Judaism. The Alter Rebbe’s sons were: Dovber Schneuri, (who eventually succeeded him), Chaim Avraham, and Moshe, and his daughters were Freida, Devorah Leah and Rochel. He is the author of Shulchan Oruch HoRav, and the Tanya. He delivered Maamorim that were then published in Likkutei Torah, Torah Ohr and Maamorei Admur HaZoken.
