The Hishtadus of Tefillah

The Way of Emunah | July 19, 2026

The Ramchal (Sefer Derech Hashem, Chelek 4, Perek 5) writes: “When one comes close and stands before Hashem, asks Him for all his needs, and casts his burden upon Him, that is the start and main aspect of his hishtadlus. After this, when he does his other means of hishtadlus, which are the physical efforts, he won’t get sunk too deeply into them because he relies on Hashem…”

In other words, one’s main hishtadlus is tefillah – not work or businesses. If one recognizes this, his emunah will be strong and he will know that He is the true source of his livelihood.
