This week in....

1974–5734, the Rebbe met Rabbi Yisroel Meir Lau — then the rabbi of North Tel Aviv — for the first time. Most of the meeting focused on the political situation and the state of Jewish life in the Holy Land. The Rebbe encouraged Rabbi Lau to keep him informed of his activities and to send recordings of his speeches. The Rebbe urged him to expand his sphere of influence throughout the country — something he would later do, eventually becoming Chief Rabbi of Israel.
