But why the need for ‘Three connections’; to connect three things you only need two connections?

The explanation here is that there is a third connection between Yisroel and Hakodosh Boruch Hu that is not through the Torah.

Not through Torah: Bypassing the Torah with a direct connection from Hakodosh Boruch Hu direct to the essence of Yisroel.

From this connection: Because of this connection between Hakodosh Boruch Hu and the essence of the B’nei Yisroel.

Torah: whose own connection is lower as it is ‘Chochmosoi Shel Hakodosh Boruch Hu’. ‘The wisdom of Hashem’ which is not as high spiritually as Yisroel who are rooted in Hashem’s Atzmus.

It is explained in Chassidus: In Likkutei Torah for Parshas Shelach The Alter Rebbe explains that because Dovid would draw down the infinite light of the ‘Ein Sof’ into his Torah study and Torah is from Hakodosh Boruch Hu’s Chochmoh which is obviously lower than Hashem’s infinite light of the Ein Sof, which means he was truly engaging in Torah for the sake of Torah itself and as such he was connecting the Torah with Hakodosh Boruch Hu.
