Every Yid —Including Women—Must Succeed in Torah

Havineini | June 27, 2025

Every Yid must succeed in Torah—no matter if he’s a kollel yungerman or a balebos who works for a living. Women too, need success in Torah, but for them it has a different meaning. While they may not be commanded to engage in learning, they are commanded to uphold the Torah and fulfill its mitzvos. They’re obligated in the לא תעשה מצוות, and in the מצוות עשה שאין הזמן גרמא, mitzvos that aren’t time-dependent, which comprise the greatest yesodos in kirvas Elokim. Of course, success in Torah is for the women as well. Every Yid must succeed in Torah!

We must emphasize this, because some people make the mistake of thinking, “Perhaps it isn’t the ratzon Hashem for me to succeed in Torah.” This is terrible mistake. There is no such a thing. There’s no exception to the rule.

Even a person to whom Hashem gave the nature that he is great at chessed and helping people, and he accomplishes tremendous things... it’s all wonderful, but this does not substitute success in Torah. A person can never say that he’s set... every Yid must succeed in Torah. And when a person understands that everything is dependent on success in Torah, it will cause him to daven for this every day—at least starting today, without letup.
