There was a factory that had many workers, each one having his defined role. Some were expert and some were amateur. The common denominator was that they each new their role and they worked devotedly at their tasks. Among the workers were two close friends who worked together on one piece of machinery. True, they were good friends, but they were very different from one another, one was very tall and the other was very short. Because of the this, the manager had them work together on the same machine, the tall man was responsible for the upper part of the machine and his short friend was in charge of the lower part of the machine. One day they decided that they wanted to work together doing the same thing, an hour on the top part of the machine and an hour on the lower part, but within a short time, the machine broke and stopped working, which stopped all the machines in the factory.
HaKadosh Baruch Hu created 'את שני המאורות הגדולים' – ‘the two great lights’ (1:16), and gave them different roles, each one a defined role and a time when it would rule. One of the roles was 'להבדיל בין היום ובין הלילה' – ‘to separate the day and the night’, and from then on (except during the flood) they served devotedly in their roles. Imagine how the world would be if one day the sun and the moon decided to shine together at the same time, or if they switched roles, the sun shining at night and the moon and stars appearing in the morning... we cannot even imagine this because it simply cannot happen!
HaKadosh Baruch Hu also created us with clear roles, everyone has a role in the world, no person was just created without a purpose, no one was assigned the role of a spare wheel... true, sometimes we do not exactly know what our role is, and actually, at that moment is our role; to clarify the role that hashgacha from above has in mind for me, and we should not try to find a different role, or associate with people of a lower status than I am, and not because chalilah to be arrogant, rather, because it is not the will of Hashem. If I do try this, then I am going against my role, and I could cause ruin to the world, and we definitely do not want to do that.
