“Ahh...nothing like a nice cup of tea on leil Shabbos!” said Abba after taking a sip from the tea that his children, Malki and Simma made for him.
“Would you like a little lemon in your tea, Abba?” asked Malki. “We made your tea in Kli Shlishi,” added Simma.
“Oh, that would be really nice!” replied Abba, “Especially, since the lemon is from our tree, and it is the week of Tu Bishvat!”
While Abba stepped out from the room, Malki dropped a slice of lemon into the tea. Simma took a teaspoon and wanted to press on the lemon.
“Wait, Simma!” screamed out Malki, “I am not sure if you may do that on Shabbos.”
Question: May Simma press on the slice of lemon?
Hints & Answers
HALACHA CHALLENGE: Sefer Shemiras Shabbos Kehilchosa (5:11) teaches: “It is allowed to put a slice of lemon into a cup of hot tea (provided that the tea is in Kli Shlishi), even though some of the juice will leak into the tea. But one may not press on the slice of lemon with a teaspoon, even when it’s inside the tea.”
