He sees a “wall” that stands in his way, but he says, “there are no walls—the obstacle is הסתר, obfuscation and teva. The teva tells the person that he has a difficult nature. The teva, nature, tells a person that he has a weak grasp.... But what’s the truth? The truth is that our affairs are with the Ribbono shel Olam alone! When a person remembers this even in the area of ruchniyus, he will be able to advance greatly and become much closer to Hashem.
He will begin to work on a certain area in ruchniyus, and when he sees that it’s difficult... everything is closed off, from all angles, he will declare: “This is all according to the pathway of teva! But we don’t go according to this pathway. We hold a different shitah!” And in this way, he will never despair—but he will continue to do battle with the darkness, and this will open before him the הוי"ה שם that corresponds to the measure of mercy and lovingkindness.
