In preparation for this Yud Shevat, chassidim study the 15th chapter of the maamar Basi Legani 5710 from the Frierdiker Rebbe (which corresponds to this year), as well as the maamarim of the Rebbe based on this chapter, namely, Basi Legani 5725 and 5745. According to Kabbalah, the ideal time to recite Kiddush Levanah is the seventh day from the molad, i.e., Tuesday night.
Being that Yud Shevat is on a Shabbos this year, the hanhaghos for Yud Shevat are split between today, erev Yud Shevat, and Shabbos—Yud Shevat itself. (For the Rebbe’s letter detailing the horaos for Yud Shevat, visit www.chabad.org/2535407.) Hanhagos to be performed today are:
- In the morning, set aside a sum of money dedicated toward causes associated with the Frierdiker Rebbe, on your behalf and on behalf of each family member. This applies to women as well (and even more than to men).

After Shacharis, read your pan (unless you will be going to the Ohel in person). While doing so, envision yourself standing before the Rebbe. Married men wear a gartel when reading the pan. The pan should then be placed between the pages of a sefer of the Rebbe and sent to be read at the Ohel (today, if possible). (Visit www.chabad.org/ohel for information on how to send your letter.)
