A story is said of Rav Moshe Feinstein ZY”A, as he was once on an elevator / lobby in his apartment building on the lower east side of Manhattan. An inappropriately dressed woman passed him, and Rav Moshe ZY”A started to cry upon seeing this. This shows he did not realize such an occurrence which probably happened many times.

From the words of the Heilege Gemoroh and the Heilige Baal Shem Tov ZY”A, we see that the mishappening in the Tzaddik Hador is actually the fault of the generation. To this we can say, it is surely a reason for the Tzadik to cry.

Based on this we may be able to say why Rav Moshe cried. On this isolated incident? The answer is that Hashem shows a person what must be rectified. Nobody can comprehend why this happened, but it prompted Rav Moshe to cry.

Tzaddikim are always Mosser Nefesh (sacrifice themselves) whether in Ruchniyus or Gashmius (spiritual or mundane) for their fellow Yidden.

It would be appropriate to relate a story which happened to Rav Moshe Mordechai Heschel, later to become the Kapychnitzer Rebbe ZY"A.
Rav Moshe Mordechai was a diamond dealer. One day a fellow Yid approached him and said, "I do not have Parnossoh (livelihood) to support my family. Rav Moshe Mordechai presented him with his "list", a key of contacts with whom to buy / sell in the diamond dealings. The Yid was shocked, "What will be with you" he asked? "Der Eibishter veht helfin – Hashem will help" answered Rav Moshe Mordechai. From here we see how a Tzaddik has full Bitochon – Trust in Hashem, accepts it on himself, not just as advice to others.

I related this story to a friend of mine, to which he responded, my grandfather, father, and uncles were in the diamond center when to their surprise this Yid appeared! Hashem ordered that the story makes a complete circle!
