The gemara says הזהרו בבני עניים שמהן תצא תורה, be mindful with the sons of the poor because from them Torah will come out. On a deeper level this means that great Torah personalities and those who spread Torah can come from a background where they weren’t raised with Torah. They grew up poor (בני עניים) in Torah observance. They attended public school, lived far from the centers of Jewish life and had no connection to being observant. But from these people, massive amounts of Torah can be brought forth. We see living proof of this today with the many baalai teshuva and their descendants. We see baalai teshuva today who have organizations and websites to help spread Torah to the masses.
Taking this explanation further, “poor” doesn’t just refer to those who were raised in a secular environment but even those frum from birth. It could be they were practicing Judaism by rote. They can also become great Torah personalities or can support Torah institutions with the money they earn thereby fulfilling שמהן תצא תורה, from them Torah will come forth.
