As last week was the Yohrtzeit of Rav Avrohom Elimelech of Karlin ZY”A HY”D, it would be appropriate to repeat a story printed in the “Karliner Flam”, which happened to the Rebbe as a child. The Rebbe was passing a construction site where a high cement wall was being built. The Rebbe questioned the activities, to which he was told that a prison is being built to confine criminals and thieves, who are a danger to be among society. As so they will be put in this prison. The Rebbe, who was a young lad at that time, answered that he has a better idea, “When the criminals are sleeping, their Neigel Vasser (water at one’s bed, to wash hands upon awakening) should be taken away from their beds and so they will be confined to their bed a whole day.”
This is a great lesson to learn from, each person on their own level. If something is not permitted, let it be a Minhog (custom), Halochoh (law), etc. one cannot transgress it, he is not able to do it. We even see that the Roshoh (evil) Billom said,
תוֹשֲׂעַל 'ה יִפּ תֶא רֹבֲעַל לַכוּא אֹל בָהָזְו ףֶסֶכּ וֹתיֵב אֹלְמ קָלָב יִל ןֶתִּי םִא רֵבַּדֲא וֹתֹא 'ה רֵבַּדְי רֶשֲׁא יִבִּלִּמ הָעָר וֹא הָבוֹט: במדבר פרק כ"ד י"ג
“Though Bolok were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not of my own accord do anything good or bad contrary to Hashem’s command. What Hashem says, that I must say.” (Bamidbor 24:13)
If we conduct our daily lives with this outlook, we will not be criminals, steal, and be adherent in every manner, including Neigel Vasser. The more adherent we are to be diligent in observance of Mitzvos (commandments) of Hashem [G-D], we will be repaid with His watchful eye. As by Shabbos
דוד ןב דחא םוי וליפא יוארכ תבשה תא לארשי םירמשמ םא יול ר"א בא: מדרש רבה - שמות - פרשה כ"ה פסקה י"ב
If Klall Yisroel will keep one Shabbos properly, Moshiach will come. - Medrash Rabboh [Shemos 25:12]
