The way you speak to your child conveys your level of expectation... You can't treat your teens like they're 5 years old, meaning you can't tell them exactly what to do and how to do it. You need to speak to them pretty much the way you would speak to an adult. Therefore, "Put your shoes in the cupboard please," becomes "Oh Honey, I think you left your shoes in the hallway." Giving this level of respect helps your teens refrain from ACTING like 5 year olds!
