Embracing Reliance
Don’t Even Wonder About the Outcome
But the yetzer hara seeks to rob a person of this pleasure. And just as the person is about to experience that pure reliance on HaKadosh Baruch Hu, the yetzer hara infuses him with all sorts of thoughts and calculations. He thinks about how he can escape the situation. He looks to the side to see whether there’s an exit through which he can get away from his situation. He wonders whether this person or that person can help him. Or, as mentioned before, he thinks about the end result.
This person says, “I believe and trust in Hashem and in His goodness...but I’m just wondering: Will the result be revealed good or hidden good? Perhaps I should daven now for an outcome that is revealed good.” The bottom line is that he is seeking to escape: He is not embracing the moment of reliance on the Ribbono shel Olam.
Don’t think so much about how to escape the situation. Embrace the moment in which you feel that no one can help you, and you find yourself under the wings of HaKadosh Baruch Hu alone. This is the thought and the mindset that connect a person to his Creator and brings him tremendous pleasure.
Everyone can attain this closeness and connection (of course, there are varying levels and degrees), and one need not be on a lofty level in order to reach it. One need only disconnect from everything else in the world and connect solely to HaKadosh Baruch Hu.
