You are all well aware, and most of you have personally experienced, the high standards of the Yeshiva in Toronto. You know about its’ level of learning and emphasis on darkei hachassidus. Boruch Hashem, the Yeshiva continues to grow in this area, and every year produces talmidim who are a pride and a joy to behold. This is most definitely a noteworthy accomplishment.
However, lately the Yeshiva has been experiencing an unprecedented financial crisis (having been hard hit by the combination of the recession and the strong Canadian dollar vechulu vechulu), and this has necessitated a restructuring, according to which the finances of the zal are being handled independently. [This financial responsibility has, at this point, been undertaken by me (don’t laugh)].
Now, of course, this is not what the Yeshiva is about. For certain, the Yeshiva is about learning and davening, it’s about realizing the insignificance of olam hazeh and worldly matters (and of course money). The Yeshiva is here to help bochurim internalize the idea that “Emess Havaya L’Olam”. So who cares about money?
But . . . in krume d’chafya al mocho farnemt dos an ort. Somewhere, somehow, at some level, we have to be concerned about these material matters as well. Without losing our sense of priorities, for sure, but at some makif’dige level, the need is there. And we would like you to help address it. To help us, together, to attempt to fix up this “membrane”.
We are looking at – for the zal – a projected deficit for this year of approximately $300,000. Of this, over a third has already been raised through a combination of donations and pledges. The remaining amount is really not overwhelming, and is truly a manageable challenge, - with your help.
