Moments of Divine Presence and Prayer

Facebuker Shabbos Table Talk | December 10, 2025

After the sin and Moshe’s pleading with Hashem, Hashem revealed thirteen attributes to Moshe and instructed him to recall these when mercy is needed for the Jews. Immediately upon their completion, when Moshe sensed Hashem’s spirit was moving away, he fell upon his face in prayer to Hashem. It was an expression of gratitude, but also an opportunity not to be missed.

While Hashem was still “present,” Moshe rushed to offer more prayers and supplications lest the opportunity slip away. There are moments in life when Hashem is very present in our lives and we have the chance to speak to Him and pour out our hearts.

One time is when we have done a mitzvah, a good deed, especially when it was challenging for us. Then we can make requests of Hashem. Another time is when tragedy strikes. At times like that, Hashem is very close, and we can grasp those moments to forge a lasting connection.

Like Moshe, we must realize these chances won’t last forever, so we must jump at them and take advantage of them right away.
