Son of Rav Eliezer Brandwein of Ozipolz. Born in 1847 (תר"ז) to Rav Eliezer Brandwein a scion of the Stretiner dynasty. Son-in-law of Rav Tzvi Hirsch Hager of Petshanizin, a scion of Kosov dynasty.
Rav Nuchem Brandwein served as Stretiner Rebbe from the year תרכ"ה. In תר"ל, he became rebbe in Borstein. After The Great Fire of תרע"ד, he moved to Stanislow.
He established a chassidus that resulted in steibelach being found throughout Galicia. His davening and nusach in the Stretin-Strelisk-Karlin style of rapture and dveykus was legendary. He was known to be so nullified before his Creator while davening, that he had no knowledge of his whereabouts or his surroundings. He was a prolific writer and authored several seforim. They are: Imrei Tov on the Torah, Imrei Brachah on Mesechtos Brachos and Shabbos, Imrei Chaim on Taryag Mitzvos, and Imrei Ratzon.
His son Rav Eliezer of Ozpila succeeded him as rebbe in Satnislow. His daughters were: Miriam, married to Rav Yitzchok Isaac Menachem Eichenstein of Podheitz; Pesha Leah, married to Rav Moshe Leib Moskowitz of Shatz; Sheindel, married to Rav Yosef Eichenstein of Tarnipol, and in a second marriage, to Rav Moshe Chaim Ephraim Halevi Horowitz of Meholovitz; and Yocheved, the wife of Rav Yehuda Leibish Kolech of Bilka.
He passed away on the 15th of Elul 1915 (תרע"ה).
