The Interplay of Torah and Prayer

This is because in the same way that engaging in Torah after prayer is greater than engaging in Torah before prayer. Because of the effect that prayer has on Torah.

So too, Torah study has an effect on prayer that the prayer becomes elevated thereby. The same way that the animal soul is easier to dominate through Torah after he has had a beating through Davening so too after the animal soul has been subdued through Torah he becomes easier to triumph through the battle of Tefilah. So we see from here how an optional battle and an obligatory battle are not a contradiction.
