In the beginning of פרשת לך לך, Hashem told אברהם אבינו to go from his land, his birthplace, his father’s house, “to the land that I will show you”. Hashem promised אברהם אבינו many blessings, including ךָה שְׁמ ל אֲגַדְׁ וַ , “I will make your name great.”

Question:
אברהם אבינו devoted his entire being to Hashem. He was not at all concerned about his own popularity. Why would it matter to him that his name would be great, that he would become famous?

Answer:
Indeed, אברהם אבינו was not concerned about his own fame. Everything he did was for the sake of Hashem, and his concern was to teach everyone about Hashem. He wanted Hashem’s name to be known in the world. And it was for this very reason that אברהם’s own fame would be meaningful to him. Since he devoted his life to teaching everyone about Hashem, his own name becoming great would bring about a greater awareness of Hashem to many more people.
