IN THE PARSHA:

אברהם and שרה travelled to מצרים, because there was a famine in ארץ כנען.
There was a concern that the Egyptians would kill אברהם in order to marry שרה, so אברהם asked her to say that she was his sister.
This way, he said, they would be nice to him, and give him _______ because of her, and his life would be saved.

QUESTION:

We can understand that they had to pretend to be brother and sister, because otherwise אברהם’s life would be in danger.
But _____ would אברהם even mention his interest in receiving gifts for himself, while שרה would be in a terrible situation?

ANSWER:

אברהם knew that nothing bad would happen to _____, because of her own greatness, and he was not interested in doing this just so he could gain some _______.
Rather, אברהם saw their going to מצרים as an opportunity to bring about the fulfillment of Hashem’s ________. In the beginning of the פרשה, Hashem had blessed אברהם with great wealth, and this blessing had not yet come true.
אברהם saw their situation in מצרים as an opportunity to help bring about the fulfilment of the ברכות with which Hashem had already blessed him.

Further discussion:

What lesson does this story of אברהם and שרה teach us about our own עבודת ד'?
(See אות ד in the שיחה)
