Ra’u kol afsei aretz eis yeshuas Elokeinu

Peninim on the Torah | June 27, 2025

All the Nations of the earth have seen the salvation of our G-d.

We were not the only ones who witnessed yeshuah, salvation. It was a public experience for all to see – and acknowledge. Yet, the only ones who accepted Hashem’s sovereignty were Bnei Yisrael. The Kedushas HaLevi explains that it is for this reason that Hashem always remembered our nation, to treat us with kindness and faith. Hashem believes in us, because we have proven our devotion to Him. Our willingness to follow Hashem into the wilderness is captured in the well-known pasuk, Zacharti lach chesed ne’urayich, “I remembered for you the kindness of your youth, following Me in the wilderness in an unsown land” (Yirmiyahu 2:2). This act of faith is a foundational moment in the relationship between Hashem and Klal Yisrael – even in the face of hardship and uncertainty. The nations of the world saw and ignored, refusing to acknowledge. They understood that acknowledgement begets commitment. They decided to stick to “seeing” – but not doing anything about it.
