Life and Death are in the Hands of the Mouth:
The pasuk can also be understood to be saying that one should not be mechalel (defile) his mouth by speaking forbidden words of lashon hara and the like. Chazal say that “life and death are in the hands of the mouth”. One can use his words either for good purposes or for bad, and every word must be measured to ensure that it is constructive and not destructive.
