This Shabbat we bless the new month of Adar. Our Sages have taught that when the month of Adar begins we should increase in happiness.

Our Sages have taught that, just as when the month of Av begins (the month in which we commemorate the destruction of the Holy Temples in Jerusalem) we lessen our joy, so, too, when the month of Adar begins, we increase our simcha - joy and happiness. The Rebbe emphasized the importance of simcha in turning the darkness of exile into the light of Redemption.

Concerning the kind of things that should be done to arouse Simcha, the Rebbe suggested that each person should be provided with incentives for increasing in joy according to their level. Children, for instance, should be provided by their parents with things that will increase their joy and spouses towards each other. The Rebbe urged everyone to find ways in which we can all increase in simcha through permissible manners during the entire month.

Simcha is an extremely powerful tool that can break through all boundaries and limitations. G-d only dwells where there is Simcha and a prophet can't receive prophesy unless they are in a state of joy which is one of the reasons why they often played musical instruments to achieve the state of joy required for the shechinah and for prophesy to dwell upon them.
