The Lesson of the Angel and Direct Connection to Hashem

Gan Hatorah | December 10, 2025

Chen Tov - 23:20

“הנה אנכי שולח מלאך לפניך לשמרך בדרך, ולהביאך אל המקום אשר הכנותי” – “Behold! I send an angel before you to protect you on the way, and to bring you to the other place that I have prepared.” Hakodosh Boruch Hu knew that Klal Yisroel would sin, and that would cause them to be given over to a Shliach, a messenger of Hashem, and this would cause a grave mistake in that Klal Yisroel would think that they are like all other nations of the world, that there is an intermediary between them and Hakodosh Boruch Hu. Every nation of the world has a Sar, a ministering angel, which acts as an intermediary between them and Hakodosh Boruch Hu. Thus, Hakodosh Boruch Hu told Moshe, “הנה אנכי שולח מלאך” – “Even when I am with Klal Yisroel, like it says in 13:21: וד' הולך לפניהם יומם בעמוד הענן” – I will send a Malach with them, even if he will not be doing anything – rather he is being sent just to teach Klal Yisroel that they should never exchange a Malach, or anything else for that matter, for Hakodosh Boruch Hu. Klal Yisroel needed to know that no matter what, even when they Chas V’sholom sin, they must never turn to any intermediaries, rather they must always go directly to Hashem. It is only Klal Yisroel who are Zoche to have this direct connection – and they always have it.
