Me'oros Hatzaddikim | June 27, 2025

Rav Getzil, the son of Rav Yaakov Yosef of Ostrog (“Rav Yevi”), was a tzaddik who tried to keep his mitzvos hidden from public view. Although he himself lived in utmost poverty, he donated vast sums to charity. Because of his great acts of tzedaka, he was venerated in Ostrog for many generations.

On his tombstone is written, “A man who feared G-d and loved His mitzvos, who toiled in tzedaka and charitable acts to sustain the poor and the destitute.”

He had no sons and one daughter.
Rav Getzil passed away 26 Elul in the year .תקפ"ד/5584(Pri Etz Chaim, Toldos Rav Yevi pp. 75-76, cited from Mazkeres LeGedolei Ostrog #241)
