The Elevated Status and Love of Shabbos

Whereas by contrast, during [the elevated status of] Shabbos, when engaging with worldly matters is forbidden, (to such an extent that even material things such as food and drink etc. are not just mundane, they too are to be consumed and enjoyed ‘for the sake of heaven’ so that they themselves actually become a part of the Mitzvah itself, as it is a Mitzvah to delight on Shabbos with food and drink) so too the love of HaShem [also elevated so that it] is in a manner which far surpasses the existence of the world and therefore transcends limitation and measurement and is categorised as ָהבּאַהֲבָה רַ [Great love].

It is about this that the Possuk states: רְאוּ כִּי הַוָיָ ׳ נָתַן ָתבַּשּׁלָכֶם הַ “See that Havaye has given you the Shabbos.” The word וּרְא meaning ‘to see’ highlights that this is something which is shown in a revealed manner and in that manner that they could clearly see the ‘Mon’ in a tangible way as the Possuk continues ﬠַל כֵּן הוּא נֹתֵן לָכֶם בַּוֹיּם הַשִּׁשִּׁי לֶחֶם יוֹמָיִם “Therefore, on the sixth day, He gives you bread for two days” a double portion and as we see clearly that all matters relating to Shabbos are in a manner of ‘extra’ and ‘elevated’ in comparison to the weekday just as with the food and drink that on Shabbos we eat fatty meat and drink spicy wine and from this אַהֲבָה רַבָּה concept] the[ [Great love] of Shabbos is understood.
