To be kosher, fish must have both fins and scales. The Torah lists these signs so that people can easily identify which fish are permitted. Fish without both fins and scales, such as shellfish, are not kosher.
Knowing the signs of kosher fish helps people make the right choices when buying or eating fish. This is another way to keep kosher and follow HaShem’s laws.
