Tractate Zevachim

By Justice Michel M. J. Shore

Can Tractate Zevachim be a symbol As the Beit Hamikdash is awaited? What we can offer of ourselves is taught, By Tractate Zevachim, solely ourselves. With the Olah offering in humility, We can give all we are to Divine service; Just as the Chatat, Asham and gift offerings Of Todah and Shlamim have a right time and place. Intention in how and what we present Decides validity or lack thereof. With fourteen chapters to travel within, We discover a guide through physical rules. As in our daily said Shachrit prayers, Our lives themselves are offerings for Tikkun Olam.

TALMUD IN VERSE

The meaning of the offerings Olah- burnt offering, as a symbol of complete devotion, surrender and atonement; Shlamim- peaceoffering; Chatat- sin offering for unintentional sins; Asham- guilt offering for intentional sins; Mincha- meal offering- gift offering, acknowledging G-d’s goodness; Bechor offerings- the first- born animal offerings for the priests; Ma’sser Behemah- a tithe- for the owner, a tenth of the animal offerings; Paschal offerings- communal offerings to be eaten before midnight by its participants; Mil’u’im- consecration offering; All for Tikkun Olam to help repair the world

How Can We Study Tractate Zevachim today As We Await Tomorrow? We can with a desire for Tikkun Olam.
