Rashi at the end of the verses on Tzitzis (Bemibar 15,41) mentions that the eight strings of the Tzitzis allude to the eight days that Yisrael waited between leaving Egypt until they said Shirah at the Sea.
How do we explain the eight days, since the Jews left Egypt on the 15th of Nissan and on the seventh day, the 21st of Nissan, the miracle occurred at the Sea?
- The actual language should read that “eight days” elapsed from when the Jews sacrificed the lambs on the 14th of Nissan (רש"י כתב יד).
- One also considers the 14th of Nissan as part of the Redemption since they offered the lambs as sacrifices for Pesach (רא"ם).
- When the Jews killed the lambs on the 14th of Nissan in full view of the Egyptians who considered the lambs as gods it was considered, as if they had left the ownership of the Egyptians (גור אריה).
- The intention for the extra day refers to 14th when HaShem gave permission to go out from Egypt (ר' בחיי).
- According to the Targum Yonathan, the Jews were transported on the wings of eagles on the 14th of Nissan from Egypt to the site of the Bais HaMikdash to offer their Korban Pesach. Therefore, this day was also included as one of the days that they left Mitzarim (המרי"ד מבעלז).
- Includes the 14th of Nissan since that was the actual beginning of the Redemption when the Geulah (striking of the First born) was decreed and extends for the full eight days until the actual completion of the Redemption at the time of saying the Shirah (רבי ממ"ש לקוטי שיח ות חלק ח').
- An error of the copyists; the text should read seven strings (white) alludes to the 7 days between leaving Egypt till saying the Shira at the Sea (משך חכמה).
- Eight strings allude to the eight days that the Jews waited after they sang the Shira at the Sea (that the Jews needed in order to gather the booty) (אמרי שפר).
