YAHRZEITS FOR THE 6TH OF ELUL ~ BEGINS TUESDAY NIGHT (08-23-2023)

Rav Gershon Shaul Yomtov Lipman Heller - Tosfos Yom Tov (5414 / 1654 - 369th Yahrzeit)
(Some say the Yahrzeit is on the 26th of Elul)
Born in Wallerstein, Bavaria in the year 5339 (1579), Rav Yom Tov was orphaned from his father before he was born and raised by his grandfather, Rav Moshe Wallerstein. At age eighteen, in 5357, he was appointed as a dayan and rosh yeshiva in Prague, in the beis din of the Maharal. His fame spread throughout the entire world as a gaon. At age thirty, he authored his magnum opus, the Tosafos Yom Tov on Shas Mishnayos. In MarCheshvan of 5385, he was appointed Av Beis Din of Nikolsberg, Moravia, and on Rosh Chodesh Adar of 5385 to Av Beis Din Vienna. In Teves of 5387 (1627), Rav Heller was appointed Av Beis Din of Prague. The Tosafos Yom Tov passed away on the 6th of Elul (Some say the 26th Elul).

Rav Moshe Mintz - Maharam Mintz (5591 / 1831 - 192nd Yahrzeit)

Rav Yekusiel Yehuda Teitelbaum of Sighet - Yitav Lev (5643 / 1883 - 140th Yahrzeit)
His father was Rav Elazar Nissan Teitelbaum, Rav of Drohbitsch [Drubitsh], and his grandfather was the Yismach Moshe. The young Yekusiel Yehuda was raised primarily by his grandfather and was his closest and most outstanding student. Toward the end of 5601/1841 he succeeded his grandfather, the Yismach Moshe, as Rav in Ihel (Ujhely). After that, with the recommendation of his mechutan, the Divrei Chaim of Sanz, he was appointed and served as Rav of Gorlitz. In 5617/1857, after the petira of his father on 9th of Tishrei, the residents of Drohbitsch [Drubitsh] appointed him as rav, filling his father’s position. In 5618/1858, he was invited to serve as rav of Sighet. He arrived on 18th of Tammuz and led this kehillah capably until his last day.

Rav Meir of Leshkovitz (5672 / 1912 - 111th Yahrzeit)

Rav Yechezkel Sarna - Reb Chatzkel, Divrei Yechezkel, Rosh Yeshivas Chevron (5729 / 1969 - 54th Yahrzeit)
Rav Yechezkel Sarna, born in Horodok, near Minsk (1891-1969). At the age of 11, he went to Slobodka, near Kovno. In 1903, he started learning at Yeshivas Knesses Yisrael, under the rosh yeshiva, Rav Chaim Rabinowitz. A year later, Rav Yechezkel went with Rav Rabinowitz to Telze, only to return in 1907, now under Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel, the Alter of Slobodka.

Rav Meir Tzvi Ehrentreu - Manchester Yeshiva Rosh Kollel & Rosh Yeshiva (5760 / 2000 - 23rd Yahrzeit)
Rav Meir Zvi Ehrentreu, Manchester Yeshiva Rosh Kollel and Rosh Yeshiva (2000). Rav Meir Zvi HaKohen Ehrentreu was the son of Rav Yisrael Ehrentreu. He was born in Frankfurt in 5690/1930. In time, he went to England and learned under Rav Moshe Schneider in London and later in the Gateshead Yeshiva. He served as a Maggid Shiur in the Manchester Yeshiva. Rav Meir Zvi was also known for his greatness in halacha. It is related that upon his leaving for Eretz Yisrael to serve on the Bais Din of the Eida HaChareidis, Rav Yitzchok Yaakov Weiss, former Rav of Manchester, said that the community could rely totally upon Rav Meir Tzvi. Rav Meir Zvi was niftar on the sixth of Elul 5760/2000 at the age of seventy.
