Riddles of the Week (Part 2)
(For answers see below)
- If one did an aveirah but subsequently did teshuvah, does he go out to fight? If you answered yes, why don’t Beis Din instruct anyone who has done an aveirah to have hirhuray teshuvah [thoughts of repentance], and then they would be able to go out and fight. We find in Kiddushin (49b) that if one is mekadesh [betroths] a woman on condition that he is a tzadik, and it turns out he is a rosha, we are worried that the kiddushin is valid as perhaps he had thoughts of teshuvah in his heart, so here as well, thoughts of teshuvah should work?
- We mentioned above that: מי האיש הירא ורך הלבב ילך וישוב אל ביתו – “Anyone who is fearful and faint hearted should return home” (20:8). Why aren’t we worried that everyone will simply say that they are scared and go home, and there will be no one left to fight?
- Why is it that nowadays people aren’t so particular to fulfil the mitzvah of escorting out their guests, surely, it’s obligatory and still applies today?
