Whenever Rav Shaya walked out of his house, he would distribute small coins to the children playing in the courtyard. He would say, “The fathers have major bakashos. They need many things. What can I do for them? But I can bring joy to the children with just a groshen.”

It is known that the Chozeh of Lublin zy”a also made sure to give a coin to a child every day. He would say, “One must do an act of chesed every day, and it is easy to bring joy to a child with just a small coin. For an adult, that wouldn’t be nearly enough.”
