Wine, Binah, and the Revelation of Secrets

As the Possuk states: “Wine which causes HaShem and men to rejoice” symbolises the intellectual attribute of Binah as the Possuk states: “A happy mother of children” and our Sages of blessed memory state: when wine enters the body a secret emerges. In other words there is something within that is concealed and secret (the state Sod - secret) and as a result of the wine this secret is revealed and animated. This is what happened with Nodov and Avihu that their Avodah was in a state of ‘Rotzoi’ surging towards HaShem in absolute perfection.

However, the original intention [of creation] is that there shall specifically be an Avodah of ‘Shoiv’ [as the Talmud states] “He entered in peace and he exited in peace”. Therefore, this Avodah [of Nodov and Avihu] was not as it was supposed to be whereas the ‘Mochin of Abbah’ which is a state of Chochma is a state of ‘Shoiv’. This aligns well with that which our Sages have said: “Who is wise? One who can see that which will be born” in other words ‘can see how everything comes into being ex-nihilo by the word of HaShem ‘something tangible from nothingness’ and because of this he is absolutely self-nullified [thus] within a state of ‘Shov’.
