One of the special garments that Hashem told משה to make for אהרן was the דפוֹא.

In his explanation, רש"י writes that he did not hear or see in earlier sources an exact description of what the אפוד looked like, however, “my heart tells me” (יר ל מ י אוֹב ל ) that it was something tied from behind, like a sort of apron that noblewomen wear when they ride horses.
